Alam was posted at the Jamalpur circle, where he played a key role in the implementation of various development and maintenance projects. He also served as the executive engineer of the soil investigation division under the Bangladesh Road Research Laboratory. His notable contributions include involvement in the construction of the 1,360-meter-long Rupsa Bridge (JICA-funded) and an ADB-financed road development project.
